Nike has released their much anticipated Epic React Flyknit 2 amid a flurry of hype. So what’s the deal with these beauties, and do they live up to the expectations?
The Nike Epic React Flyknit 2 has been hailed as the Adidas UltraBoost killer, and with the enormous success of that shoe, it’ll be a big deal to outsell what was probably the all-round shoe of the year in the eyes of many a fitness enthusiast.
With two new colorways, “8-bit” and “Pixel,” Nike explain they draw inspiration from the vibrant tones of the ’90s tech world, and feature a white-to-lime gradient midsole, a hyper pink-to-white outsole and a sapphire heel clip.

Epic React Flyknit 2 “8-bit”
The super-stretchy Flyknit upper countours and grips to your foot with a minimal yet supportive design and the feel is supportive yet highly responsive. so, if you are the kind of runner that likes a firmer ride, it may not be the shoe for you.
The outsole appears almost identical to the previous iteration, and in terms of durability, they’ll need considerably more testing before we can vouch for that.
The Epic React Flyknit 2 foam is lightweight, ultra-soft and incredibly springy. The foam responds to your foot by snapping back, so the more energy you put into your step, the more you get in return.
Epic React Flyknit 2 “Pixel”
The lightweight Flyknit upper gives you plenty of stretch so once you’ve tied your laces initially, you should only need to slip them straight onto your feet for future runs.
The new moulding on the heel helps keep your foot stable, and although some runners may prefer a more snug fit for balance, those that are familar with the react shoe will find it comfortable.
A Men’s size 9 comes in at around 248g so is a lean option if that what you’re after. The drop comes in at a sensible 9mm with 26mm at the heel and 17mm at the forefoot.
The Nike Epic Flyknit 2 is available to Nike Plus members from Mid January and going on general sale shortly afterwards.
